Job Description Summary

educators who want to teach at the intersection of technology and
business. We use this pooled posting to maintain a standing group
of qualified adjunct lecturers and draw from it as staffing needs

and analytics, cybersecurity, business processes and enterprise
systems, and financial technology, at both the undergraduate and

About Bentley and the CIS Department

Bentley University is a private business university in Waltham,
Massachusetts, just west of Boston, that pairs business education
with the arts and sciences. Its business programs are accredited by
AACSB International.

With 31 full-time faculty, CIS is one of the largest information
systems departments at a U.S. university. CIS offers three
STEM-designated undergraduate majors and four minors, teaches
courses every Bentley undergraduate takes, and supports graduate
programs in business analytics, AI, and FinTech. The three majors
are:

  • Computer Information Systems, which prepares students

for roles such as business analyst, systems analyst, application
developer, and systems integrator

  • Artificial Intelligence for Innovation, created jointly

with the Philosophy Department, which combines technical AI skills
with the ethical and societal questions AI raises

  • Finance and Technology (FinTech), offered with the

Finance Department, which applies programming, data management, and
machine learning to financial services

The four minors are Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity,
Data Technologies, and Managing Digital Technologies. Because CS
100 is part of the foundation all Bentley undergraduates complete,
and CS 305 is required of every business major, CIS adjuncts teach
students from across the university. At the graduate level, CIS
courses are part of the core of the MS in Business Analytics and
the STEM MBA, make up most of the STEM MBA's Artificial
Intelligence major, and contribute to the MS in Finance's FinTech
major. Students also get support from the CIS Sandbox, the
department's peer tutoring and technology learning space.

level of responsibility, and continuing professional engagement in
that field. Candidates holding a doctorate in a related field may
instead qualify as Scholarly or Practice Academics.

Schedule and Format

Undergraduate CIS courses are taught in person on the Waltham
campus and instructors must be available to teach during the day,
Monday through Friday. Undergraduate courses may be scheduled in
daytime or evening sections, while graduate courses are generally
offered in a hybrid format. Some courses are also offered online.
Assignments are made each semester based on enrollment and
department needs, and the format, meeting times, and instructor
expectations for each section are confirmed with the department
before the term begins.

Course formats at Bentley

  • In person: The class meets in a campus classroom at its

scheduled times.

  • Hybrid (HB): The class meets live at a scheduled time,

typically once a week for 2 hours and 20 minutes, in a
hybrid-equipped classroom, and each student chooses to attend in
person or join remotely on Zoom.

  • Synchronous online (SN): The entire course is online,

and students attend live online class meetings at scheduled
times.

  • Asynchronous online (AL): The entire course is online

with no scheduled class meetings. Students work through course
materials in Brightspace on their own schedule, and some sections
add optional live sessions.

Synchronous formats (in person, hybrid, and synchronous online)
meet live at scheduled times; asynchronous formats have no
scheduled meeting times.
