About the position
Position Description Harvey Mudd College invites applications for Adjunct Professors of Engineering for our general engineering program for the Spring 2026 semester (January – May). The Department of Engineering seeks candidates with experience and knowledge in applications of engineering who can excel at teaching in a broadly-based undergraduate curriculum focused on design, systems engineering, and engineering science. Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and professional growth. The candidate must have completed or be close to completing a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in engineering or a related field. Industrial or other practical experience in the field is valued. Each adjunct will teach one (or optionally more) of the following classes: E83 (Continuum Mechanics), E84 (Electronic and Magnetic Circuits and Devices) or engineering elective courses negotiated at the time of hire. E83 and E84 are required core courses (sophomore/junior level) and reference teaching materials are available. Engineering electives are junior/senior level courses and may be adapted to the instructor’s particular expertise. All registered classes taught during the academic year must be taught in person and on campus, in line with the HMC Academic Catalog and HMC Faculty Notebook. Applicants should submit: a cover letter, a curriculum vitæ, and the names of at least three references. Candidates should provide evidence of excellence in teaching. For full consideration, applications should be received by October 26, 2026, but applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.
