About the position
The Center for Computational Biology (CCB) at UC Berkeley invites applications for two approved tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level and two approved open rank positions at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level as a part of the Bakar Computational Biomedicine Initiative (BCBI). Memberships in related institutes and initiatives or affiliations with other UC Berkeley departments or schools may also be considered.
About the Baker Computational Biomedicine Initiative:
The BCBI is a joint program recently launched by UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco (UCSF) to develop the frontier of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, computer science, and statistics to accelerate advances in biomedical research.
About the Center for Computational Biology:
CCB is an academic unit under the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS). It offers a PhD degree program, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration and research for diverse areas across computational biology. The center features distinguished faculty and graduate students from more than a dozen academic departments across six colleges at UC Berkeley.
About the Positions:
CCB is seeking applicants who develop novel AI, machine learning (ML), computational, and/or statistical methods for analyzing, integrating, and interpreting biological, biomedical, and clinical data. Relevant research areas include, but are not limited to the following: AI/ML-enabled immune engineering and immunotherapy; computational approaches to cancer biology and precision oncology; AI/ML-guided genome editing and therapeutic development; computational methods for therapeutic target discovery and drug development; modeling of protein-ligand interactions for therapeutic discovery and design; statistical and computational methods for analyzing biobank-scale genomic, phenotypic, and clinical data; personal genome interpretation and prediction of disease risk and complex traits; computational approaches to disease diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment response; and integration of genomic, single-cell, spatial, imaging, clinical, and other multimodal biomedical data. These positions will contribute to CDSS and the broader UC Berkeley campus by fostering interdisciplinary collaborations across BCBI, Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Statistics, and other related units.
UC Berkeley values the family needs of faculty, including dual career couples, single parents, or those who may have taken time off for family reasons. For information about potential relocation to Berkeley, or career needs of accompanying partners and spouses, please visit the
