About the position

The
Department of Pediatrics
at the University of California, San Diego is committed to clinical and academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body. We are seeking applications from physicians to fill the following positions:

  • Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine Physicians
  • Division Chief

The clinical practice provides consultative, evidence-based, trauma-informed, culturally aware, and confidential care for youth aged 10-26 years in San Diego County. Clinical services include eating disorder management, comprehensive contraceptive services including placement of long-acting reversible contraceptives, medical management of menstrual and gynecologic disorders, STI screening and treatment, substance use management, and mental health assessment with medication management. Division members work collaboratively across sub-specialties (e.g., hematology, endocrinology, and gastroenterology) to provide multidisciplinary care for chronic conditions. The division is also responsible for providing outpatient services in the Center for Gender-Affirming Care as well as inpatient care on the Medical Behavioral Unit (MBU).
The MBU is a major national referral center and works closely with the UC San Diego Eating Disorder Center for Treatment and Research. Its primary focus is on medical stabilization of youth and young adults with eating disorders and nutrition-related conditions, including severe malnutrition. We provide high-level care with a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, dietitians, and behaviorally trained nurses.
The physicians will be responsible for providing clinical care with and without trainees; teaching medical students, residents, and fellows; as well as engaging in the development and implementation of successful educational, community-based, or advocacy programs within the field of Adolescent Medicine and other adjacent fields. In addition to these activities, the physicians will actively contribute to clinical, translational, community-based, or basic science scholarly pursuits and/or research.
In addition, the successful candidate for the Division Chief position will provide clinical leadership, which includes oversight of divisional budgets, quality improvement activities, and direction for members of the Division.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience.
