About the position
The Department of Otolaryngology at the University of California, San Diego, is committed to academic excellence across its faculty, staff, and student body and seeks to recruit research faculty. The selected candidate(s) will develop and lead an independent, extramurally funded research program in otolaryngology. Responsibilities include designing and conducting original research studies, securing federal and foundation funding, collaborating with clinical and surgical faculty on translational research efforts, managing lab personnel and operations, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and mentoring and teaching trainees. The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience. If appointed to a title covered by the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Candidates must have a PhD in biomedical science, bioengineering, neuroscience, or a related field, or an MD or equivalent degree. Preferred qualifications Candidates with experience in peripheral nerve sheath tumor biology or related oncology research are preferred. Candidates with experience in translational drug-response framework development applicable across a disease class (vs. single-model focus) are preferred. Candidates with experience in patient-derived spheroid or tumor model development are preferred. Candidates with experience using organ-on-chip or micro physiological system platforms are preferred. Candidates with experience using computational/ML approaches applied to drug delivery or disease modeling are preferred. Candidates with an active or in-preparation federal career development award (e.g., K01/K-series through NIH institutes such as NIBIB) are preferred.
