The School of Humanities (SoH) at NTU Singapore is committed to disciplinary excellence and interdisciplinary innovation. SoH is developing a new Institute for AI Ethics in collaboration with the College of Computing and Data Science, and the successful candidate could be appointed co-director of this Institute and could be cross-appointed with the College of Computing and Data Science. The Department of Philosophy at NTU Singapore invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured appointment at any rank. We seek an intellectually ambitious scholar who specializes in the Philosophy of AI or related fields. The NTU Philosophy Department offers a Major and Minor in Philosophy. It is a postgraduate degree programme, with both MA and PhD students, and our degree programmes have a strong record of job placement. NTU philosophy faculty have particular strengths in ethics, Asian and comparative philosophy, and philosophy of science. In addition, we are starting a new MA Programme in AI Ethics and Society, which will offer a postgraduate degree anchored in the humanities, dedicated to the study of ethical, societal, and governance dimensions of AI Research Profile Applicants should demonstrate a strong and original research agenda in philosophy of AI. Areas of interest may include (but are not limited to): - AI ethics - AI and philosophy of mind - AI and philosophy of science - AI and philosophy of technology The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Philosophy and for the MA in AI Ethics and Society. The candidate will supervise postgraduate research and contribute actively to mentoring students working in Philosophy and interdisciplinary research, especially relating to ethical, societal, and governance dimensions of AI. The successful candidate may be appointed Director of the MA in AI Ethics and Society. Requirements at all levels include: - A PhD in Philosophy or a related field - Evidence of strong scholarly promise and a developing publication profile - Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and student mentorship - Interest in collaborative, interdisciplinary, and internationally engaged research - Good communication and interpersonal skills In addition, requirements at the Associate Professor and Full Professor level include: - Recognition in the research community, such as invited talks, awards, or memberships in professional societies - Proven ability to secure research funding - Demonstrated capacity to contribute to curriculum development - A strong track record of supervising students, research staff, and/or postdocs, as well as mentoring junior faculty - Experience in leadership and/or service roles The closing date for applications is 31 October 2026.
