College of Liberal and Fine
Arts
The School of Communication, Language, and
Culture (CLC) is housed within the College of Liberal and Fine Arts
(COLFA). COLFA is on an accelerated trajectory of transformation
and growth fueled by three major drivers: reimagining the
humanities, recommitting to arts education, and bolstering social
science research. In line with these initiatives, the College
recently established the School for Interdisciplinary Engagement,
designed to further collaborative engagement and discovery around
the intersections of grand challenges facing society and the human
experience. Bringing together the Department of Communication and
the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures for CLC reflects
this trajectory. The new Bilingual Journalism Assistant Professor
will play a crucial role in CLC's ongoing growth by contributing to
an interdisciplinary vision that connects and integrates
communication, languages, journalism, and digital storytelling. We
envision the person in this new position building bridges among
these areas while engaging with UT San Antonio's strengths in
community engagement, healthcare, business, artificial
intelligence, and data science.

The School of Communication, Language, and
Culture (CLC) represents a newly created academic unit within the
College of Liberal and Fine Arts. Boasting more than 70 faculty,
1,000 majors, and 50 MA students, the vision of the School is based
on an interconnected ecosystem rooted in, drawing from, and
building on shared strengths of the Department of Communication and
the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. The new School
will serve as home to six residential Bachelor of Arts degrees, two
online Bachelor of Arts degrees, certificates in Healthcare
Interpreting, Digital Communication, and Strategic Communication,
and two Master of Arts degrees. A new PhD program to launch in two
years, various certificates at the undergraduate and graduate
levels, and an online Bachelor of Arts degree are currently under
development. As a center of excellence in research and teaching,
the School shapes a future that is connected to the global
landscape. The School builds on San Antonio's historic role as the
birthplace of nationwide Spanish-language publishing and broadcast
in the United States while looking toward innovations in emerging
media and technologies. As a learning community, the School brings
together faculty, staff, students, and community partners in
support of research, teaching, and engagement. The School houses
the Center for Dialogue
and Deliberation and the Digital Media Lab. Additional centers
focused on language acquisition, translation and interpreting, and
bilingual journalism are anticipated. The assistant professor in
bilingual journalism will have an unparalleled opportunity to
