Position Description The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Boston University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We are primarily seeking candidates working at the frontiers of robotics in mechanical engineering but welcome all candidates whose work complements and extends our core strengths in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, biomechanics and mechanobiology, dynamics and control, energy and sustainability, materials, robotics, solid mechanics, and thermofluids. Our department offers a highly collaborative environment in which to build an ambitious research program. MechE faculty lead and participate in several high-profile, multidisciplinary research centers, including the Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science and Engineering, the Center for Information and Systems Engineering, the Center for Multiscale and Translational Mechanobiology, the NSF Engineering Research Center in Cellular Metamaterials, the Center for Space Physics, the Institute for Global Sustainability, the Photonics Center, and more. The department, college, and university are committed to convergent research that cuts across disciplines and addresses society’s most pressing challenges, and Boston’s rich ecosystem of universities, medical institutions, and technology industries offer exceptional opportunities for collaboration and impact. Leading Assistant Professor tenure-track candidates will hold a PhD in Engineering or a related field, and will be prepared to conduct a research program that would complement and enhance the strengths of the COE. Candidates will be expected to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate level in their home department and in cross-college courses. We are explicitly looking for candidates who have an interest in the Societal Impact of their research.
