About the position
Position Description The Department of Health Sciences at Boston University’s Sargent College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in computational and cognitive neuroscience. We seek scholars working with clinical populations who integrate data-driven, biologically informed modeling and machine learning for neural decoding, bridging fundamental discoveries with clinical applications in sensorimotor and cognitive function and rehabilitation. This position is part of BU’s major investment in convergent research, bringing together bold ideas, deep expertise, and perspectives from across disciplines to take on society’s most critical challenges. The position is part of a University-wide cluster hire in Advancing Brain and Cognitive Health, which builds on BU’s strength in Health Across the Lifespan. Spanning biology, biomedical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, health sciences, mathematics and statistics, and psychological and brain sciences, the cluster draws on BU’s strengths in neuroscience, engineering, computation, and AI to pursue transformative research questions, advance our understanding of neural information processing, and develop new approaches to neurological and psychiatric disease. The Department of Health Sciences is an interdisciplinary leader in research focused on improving health and well-being across diverse populations. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Health Science, Human Physiology, Nutrition/Dietetics, and Public Health. Through hands-on learning, clinical partnerships, and specialized research labs, students are prepared for careers in medicine, neuroscience, public health, nutrition, and healthcare. The department has growing strengths in brain and cognitive health research across the lifespan. Faculty investigate the physiological, molecular, behavioral, social, environmental, and clinical factors that influence cognitive development, brain aging, dementia risk, mental health, rehabilitation, and quality of life. Research spans the full spectrum from fundamental to translational to clinical science, including molecular, cellular, and systems neuroscience and neuropathology, prevention science, health promotion, population health, implementation science, and health equity. The department welcomes scholars whose work seeks to uncover the basic biological mechanisms of brain health and disease, develop and test interventions to promote cognitive resilience and prevent cognitive decline, improve access to evidence-based care, and address disparities in brain health outcomes. Since its founding in 1839, Boston University has embraced a mission of openness and access, becoming one of the first universities in the nation to welcome all students of ability regardless of race, gender, or creed.
