Position Description The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at Boston University’s College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in human cognitive neuroscience. We seek scholars with strong quantitative and computational expertise and a foundational understanding of neuroanatomy and systems neuroscience. This position is part of BU’s major investment in convergent research, bringing together bold ideas, deep expertise, and perspectives from across disciplines to take on society’s most critical challenges. The position is part of a University-wide cluster hire in Advancing Brain and Cognitive Health, which builds on BU’s strength in Health Across the Lifespan. Spanning biology, biomedical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, health sciences, mathematics and statistics, and psychological and brain sciences, the cluster hire draws on BU’s strengths in neuroscience, engineering, computation, and AI to pursue transformative research questions, advance our understanding of neural information processing, and develop new approaches to neurological and psychiatric disease. This position within the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at Boston University will sit in the Brain, Behavior and Cognition program, which has strong ties to the undergraduate and graduate neuroscience training programs, the Center for Systems Neuroscience, and Cognitive Neuroimaging Center. The ideal candidate will be working in human cognitive neuroscience with a strong quantitative and computational background, and solid foundational understanding of neuroanatomy and systems neuroscience. The ideal candidate will also make use of the shared research infrastructure in the Cognitive Neuroimaging Center. We also note that there are numerous ‘big data’ initiatives within cognitive neuroscience, and this hire could contribute to the convergent theme of AI, Data Science and Computing. We particularly emphasize candidates whose research will interact with other hires in the convergent search, including faculty in computational neuroscience, brain-computer interface, clinical rehabilitation applications and animal systems neuroscience. Position Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a related field, the ability to obtain external funding to support their program of research and scholarship, and a commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching, education, and mentorship of students. Successful candidates will be expected to lead an independent research program; actively engage in collaborative research; teach and mentor students; and provide rank-appropriate service to the department, university, and profession. The salary allocated for these roles is $115,000 to $130,000. Final salary determination and rank placement will be based on the candidate's academic record, research background, years of qualifying experience, and a variety of other factors, including but not limited to licenses, specialty, departmental budgets, training and internal pay comparison. The stated hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
