Job Details
The Department of History in the Edwards College of Humanities and
Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a
tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Global,
Transnational, or World History, beginning in August 2027.
We seek candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to
undergraduate teaching and research, the potential for excellence
in graduate instruction, and the pursuit of an active scholarly
agenda. Applicants with specialization in the early-modern and/or
modern periods and an interest outside of the US are particularly
encouraged to apply.
The desired candidate will hold a Ph.D. in history by the time of
appointment with a focus on themes relevant to the department.
Applicants that can contribute to the development of our curricular
initiatives in the history of science & technology, the
environment, and/or applied history as well as supplement the
History Department’s Social Studies major and/or the Peace and
Conflict Studies and/or War and Society minors, and/or the
College’s regional minors are particularly welcome to apply. The
successful candidate will teach 6 courses per year: a combination
of world history or thematic survey courses and upper-level courses
in their area(s) of specialization, per the needs of the department
and in consultation with the Department Chair.
Interested candidates must apply online at https://jobs.coastal.edu/postings/122865
. A complete set of application materials must include: a letter of
application describing the candidate’s interest, qualifications,
teaching experience, and scholarly agenda; at least 2 sample
syllabi (1 survey class and 1 potential upper-level class); an
unofficial graduate transcript; curriculum vitae; and the names and
contact information of three references. A review of applications
will begin on November 12, 2026 and continue until the position
is filled.

Yes
Posting Designation
Employer-based sponsorship may be considered for this position,
subject to institutional review and applicable law.
Work Authorization & Sponsorship for Job Posting
Employment at Coastal Carolina University is contingent upon
authorization to work in the United States. CCU may consider
employer-based visa sponsorship for certain positions; however,
sponsorship is discretionary, not guaranteed, and subject to legal,
financial, and institutional requirements. CCU rarely sponsors
part-time, temporary, staff or non-tenure-track roles and will not
sponsor H-1B petitions when the federally required $100,000 fee
applies.
If the position is a non-tenure track (Lecturer, instructor and
visiting faculty) position that would not typically allow for
sponsorship but the department wants to seek approval for an
exception to allow for sponsorship, a special assessment will need
to be submitted through DocuSign and submitted for approval before
the postings is initiated and submitted for approvals in PA. A copy
of the approved assessment will need to be attached to the posting
request in PA. Cassie will provide more info on the process for
requesting an exception and the assessment approvals.
We will schedule a meeting this week to discuss this more in
detail, especially the needs assessment piece in Docusign for an
exception request but I wanted to get this much to you ASAP as PA
has pushed this to the live site already so you should already see
the info in the pending postings out there now.
