Assistant Professor of History - Post war 20th century American history

Oakland University Rochester, United States

About the position

The Department of History at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Post-1945 U.S. History, to begin August 2027. The area of specialization is open within the field, but we particularly welcome applicants able to teach broadly, including African American history and / or urban history. The standard teaching load is 3-2, and the successful candidate will demonstrate a robust research agenda consistent with the expectations for tenure at an R2 institution. In addition to teaching upper-level and graduate courses in post-1945 U.S. History and related topics, the candidate will contribute to the department’s general education curriculum, including teaching survey classes in post-1877 U.S. History. A commitment to teaching and mentoring graduate students, as well as active engagement in departmental and institutional service, is essential.
