The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Binghamton
University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor of Spanish specializing in Golden Age literature. We seek

of the sixteenth and/or seventeenth centuries and who can
contribute broadly to our undergraduate and graduate curriculum in

engages literature through interdisciplinary approaches or across
historical periods. The position calls for a scholar who will bring
new perspectives to the study of Spanish literature and
demonstrates innovative approaches to teaching that engage students
and connect the study of earlier periods to contemporary
intellectual and cultural questions. The teaching load for this
position is two Spanish courses per semester.

The Department of Romance Languages consists of 30 faculty members
across Spanish, French, and Italian. Our department teaches more
than 1,000 students each semester and offers a variety of
extracurricular programs for additional exposure to language and
culture outside the classroom. Students can major or minor in any
of our languages. Our Spanish division also offers three distinct
courses for heritage speakers of the language. Within Harpur
College of Arts and Sciences, Spanish is the second most commonly
declared minor among students. We offer a range of graduate
options, including 4+1 and traditional Master of Arts degrees in
each of our languages, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching in
Spanish and French. Our faculty regularly collaborate with other
