Associate Professor, Full-time (Tenure-track) (Division of Biotechnology and Life Science, Institute of Engineering)

About the position

We invite applications from a wide range of fields for young faculty members who possess deep expertise and outstanding achievements in biotechnology, life science and related disciplines, and who are capable of leading original and pioneering research with a view toward social implementation in the near future. Examples of envisioned research areas include studies based on cell biology or structural biology, device development and novel material/substance development aimed at applications in medicine, environmental science, and food science, as well as research targeting molecules and living organisms utilizing omics analysis, synthetic biology, information science, mathematical and data science, AI, and related approaches. However, these are merely illustrative examples and are not intended to limit the fields of application.
Appointee will be required to teach courses and supervise research in the field of Biotechnology and Life Science. In cooperation with the faculty members of the Department of Biotechnology and Life Science (undergraduate and graduate schools), the successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to nurturing human resources who can contribute to achieving a sustainable society, which is a core mission of our university.

Trial period:Three months
Term of Employment:Five years (Tenure-track program)
The appointee's performances will be reviewed twice during the tenure-track period: in the third and the fifth years after the appointment. The review will be carried out by intra- and extramural committees and according to the regulation for the tenure-track program of TUAT. Appointees with promising and significant research accomplishments will receive tenure based on the review.

Selection Policy:
TUAT's selection process emphasizes the following criteria:

  • The candidate has produced internationally recognized research and has outstanding achievements in the field of biotechnology.
  • The candidate will contribute to the education in our department both at the undergraduate and the graduate level. Educational duties will include classes in the international section.
  • The candidate's research shall have a strong societal impact.
  • The candidate is expected to contribute to international joint research and actively produce internationally co-authored high-impact papers.
  • The candidate actively obtains external funding and is financially self-sufficient to run the laboratory.

Selection:

  • The successful candidate will be decided through the interview (at TUAT or online) for the candidates selected by the document screening.
  • Travel expenses for the interview will be borne by the applicant.
  • All communications regarding the selection process, including notification of results, will be sent by e-mail.
  • Inquiries may be made within the scope necessary for the selection process.

Notification of result
After reviewing the application documents, we will contact the selected candidates with details regarding the interview date and time.
Notification will be sent by email within 10 days after the interview.
