JOB TITLE:
Assistant Professor
JOB PURPOSE:
The Division of Social Work at the University of Wyoming invites
applications for a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track Assistant
Professor position on the Laramie campus, starting in August 2027.
We are particularly interested in applicants who want to be part of
a small but diverse faculty that is energized to enhance and expand
its programs, with a focus on advancing human rights and dignity
and serving rural communities. Persons with said commitment and
expertise in teaching generalist and advanced generalist practice
at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels are encouraged to apply;
also, persons with a special interest in teaching undergraduate and
graduate social work policy courses are especially encouraged to
apply.
The Division of Social Work offers a Generalist BSW program and an
Advanced Generalist MSW program, enrolling approximately 55
undergraduate and 55 graduate students. The MSW program offers two
flexible options to meet the needs of students across the state.
The full-time MSW option, based in Laramie, utilizes a hybrid model
that combines distance education with intensive face-to-face
weekend classes. Additionally, there is a part-time option housed
at the University of Wyoming Casper Campus, which also follows the
hybrid format with weekend classes and distance learning. Both
options provide flexible learning opportunities while maintaining a
balance of distance and in-person instruction. The BSW program
offers traditional on-campus programs in Laramie and Casper. The
Division has a commitment to scholarship, education, and practice
rooted in the principles and values of social justice.
The University of Wyoming is the state's only public provider of
baccalaureate and graduate education and is a Carnegie-designated
doctoral university/high research activity. UW combines major
university benefits and small school advantages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintaining an active research/scholarly program; teaching at both
the undergraduate and graduate levels; advising students;
supervising/chairing graduate student portfolios/research projects;
conducting field liaison work; participating in division, college,
university, and professional activities; providing service and
outreach activities; and participating in curriculum and program
development. This position requires weekend and/or evening
teaching, periodic travel within the state, and classroom teaching
and distance education delivery systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Earned Ph.D. in social work or a closely related field
(doctorate must be successfully defended prior to the anticipated
starting date).
- Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited
program or a degree determined by CSWE to be equivalent. Official
documentation of the CSWE equivalency determination must be
uploaded with the application.
- Two years of post-MSW practice experience
- Ability and willingness to teach during evening classes and
scheduled intensive weekend sessions.
- Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR)
compliant with the Driving for University Business
SAP.
Experience Evaluation
Minimum experience requirements are evaluated on a full-time
equivalent (FTE) basis. Relevant part-time experience will be
prorated based on hours worked. For example, two years working an
average of 20 hours per week is equivalent to approximately one
year of full-time experience.
Applicants must include the average hours worked per week for all
current and previous positions. Failure to provide this information
may affect the evaluation of qualifications.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Teaching experience in social work or related field.
- Experience in working with rural populations.
- Experience using distance education technology.
- Experience in a generalist/advanced generalist social work
education program.
Applicants should be able to teach social policy at both the BSW
and MSW levels. Additional teaching areas may include Human
Behavior in the Social Environment (HBSE), community and
organizational practice, leadership and supervision, and other
courses across the Generalist and Advanced Generalist Curricula.
Evidence of research competence and the potential to develop a
strong scholarly agenda is expected.
REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS:
Complete the online application and upload the following materials
for a complete application: (1) a cover letter indicating your
interest in the open tenure-track position, (2) a curriculum vitae,
(3) a well-articulated research agenda describing past, current,
and future scholarship, research collaborations, and research
goals, (4) a teaching philosophy highlighting teaching
effectiveness, and (5) unofficial transcripts (official transcripts
