About the position
The UCSF Department of Neurological Surgery and The Gladstone-UCSF Institute of Genomic Immunology are jointly recruiting a faculty member at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level to lead a new research program supported in part by the UCSF Brain Tumor Center, focused on immunotherapy for brain tumors. The successful candidate will be a basic scientist based at the Gladstone Institutes (Mission Bay), with primary faculty appointment in the Department of Neurological Surgery. Candidates must have a strong background in immunology, genomics, genetics, genome engineering, and/or synthetic biology, and significant achievements and meaningful promise in developing novel immunotherapies for brain tumors. We invite applications from scientists with Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degrees who are establishing or have established an independent basic science research program in brain tumor immunotherapy research. Relevant areas of research include, but are not limited to:
- Genome engineering to enhance adoptive cellular therapies for brain cancer
- Protein design and engineering in the context of the immune system and immunotherapies for brain cancer
- Systems immunology and immunotherapy in neuro-oncology
- Preclinical disease models and clinical translation of innovative immunotherapies in the context of the brain
Investigators will be expected to develop extramurally sponsored research programs and educate, mentor, and develop graduate and medical students. The successful candidate will hold a primary faculty appointment in the UCSF Department of Neurological Surgery, along with an Investigator affiliation at the Gladstone-UCSF Institute of Genomic Immunology, as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, and will be assigned dedicated research space, primarily located in new Gladstone Institutes space at Mission Bay, with additional support from the UCSF Brain Tumor Center.
About Gladstone-UCSF Institute of Genomic Immunology
To harness the immense potential offered by immunotherapies, the Gladstone-UCSF Institute of Genomic Immunology combines emerging biomedical technologies at the intersection of human immunology, genomics, CRISPR genome engineering, computational biology, and synthetic biology.
The institute's scientists deepen knowledge of how DNA sequences control cell functions in the human immune system. Their discoveries will enable the next generation of immunotherapies for cancer, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, inflammation and beyond.
This institute is the result of a close partnership between Gladstone Institutes and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). With wet and dry lab space to be housed (starting in 2027) in a new building on the Mission Bay campus, it creates a unified community across the two campuses and combines UCSF's world-class immunology and planned cell therapy efforts with Gladstone's expertise in the host-pathogen interface, iPS cells, computational biology, and CRISPR gene editing technologies.
