Description of the research group: The Clinical Memory Research group at the Department of Clinical Sciences Malmö conducts leading research on biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, such as Lewy body dementia and Parkinson's disease. The research, internationally recognised through the BioFINDER studies, has for several years been at the forefront of fluid biomarkers and brain imaging, enabling early and accurate detection, diagnosis and prognosis of disease.

The group is led by Senior Lecturer Sebastian Palmqvist and Senior Lecturer Niklas Mattsson-Carlgren and consists of research staff and technical/administrative staff. The workplace is located at the Biomedical Centre (BMC) in Lund.

We work closely with the Memory Clinic at Skåne University Hospital in Malmö, where several of our researchers also work clinically.

Project description: The position is primarily associated with a five-year multicentre project (2026-2031) funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) through a U01 grant for the clinical validation of the blood biomarker MTBR-tau243 in Alzheimer's disease, conducted in collaboration with Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. However, the work will encompass the activities of the entire research group and involve longitudinal data from several thousand participants in the BioFINDER studies, including blood and cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers, PET and MRI imaging, cognitive assessments, genetics, and proteomics.

  • planning and carrying out statistical analyses for scientific publications together with the group's researchers, for example regarding diagnostic accuracy (ROC analysis, cutoffs, calibration, prediction models) and longitudinal data (mixed models, time-to-event, etc.)
  • compiling and quality-controlling analysis datasets from the group's databases across projects
  • producing clear, publication-quality figures and tables from the data
  • writing reproducible, well-documented analysis code in R
  • contributing to the U01 project's statistical analysis plan and pre-specified analyses, together with the Principal Investigator and statisticians at the US partner sites
  • drafting methods and results sections and reviewing the statistical parts of manuscripts
  • providing statistical advice on study design, power calculations and choice of methods
  • following methodological developments in the field and introducing new tools and ways of working in the group.

Qualifications: Requirements for the position:

  • a PhD in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology or another relevant field with a clear statistical focus. The PhD must have been awarded by the time the employment decision is made.
  • excellent command of R, including data handling and programming of reproducible analyses.
  • a strong ability to visualise data and produce clear, publication-quality figures.
  • good knowledge of statistical modelling, in particular regression models, methods for diagnostic accuracy and analysis of longitudinal data.
  • excellent command of English, spoken and written (English is the group's working language).
  • great importance will be attached to personal qualities. We are looking for someone who is meticulous and structured, able to explain statistical methods and results to clinicians and researchers, service-minded and able to handle several parallel projects and deadlines.
