DEPARTMENT CHAIR
Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences
The College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University invites applications for Chair of the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences (https://www.vet.cornell.edu/departments/population-medicine-and-diagnostic-sciences). The Chair will lead a highly successful department with faculty in the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) and its comprehensive portfolio of a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory, as well as faculty in Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases, Ambulatory and Production Medicine, Shelter & Community Medicine, Wildlife Health & Health Policy, and Public Health. The mission of the department is to promote the health, productivity, and welfare of food-and fiber-producing animals, companion animals, and zoo and free-ranging wildlife populations, to ensure the safety of foods of animal origin, to prevent animal disease with its associated risks to human health, and to prepare students and post-graduate trainees for careers in these areas. This mission is accomplished through the pillars of teaching, research, service, and extension.
The college seeks a dynamic individual to lead the department in all aspects of academic activity, including stewardship of resources and personnel. In collaboration with the faculty, the Chair fosters excellence in teaching, research, and clinical and diagnostic services, for the advancement of animal and human health. The Chair provides oversight for the recruitment, retention and professional development of departmental faculty and staff, and works closely with the Executive Director of the AHDC and the Director of the Cornell University Hospital for Animals to coordinate department, clinical, and diagnostic laboratory functions. The Chair, furthermore, is expected to pursue scholarly activities in their area of expertise.
Applicants with a DVM degree or equivalent will be strongly considered. Individuals with other health profession degrees and experience in disciplines relevant to the department will also be considered. Preference will be given to applicants with advanced training in a discipline relevant to department interests. The ideal candidate will have a record of leadership, success in mentoring faculty, and experience overseeing budget and allocation of funds responsibly. In addition, evidence of excellence in teaching, research and/or clinical and diagnostic activities sufficient to qualify for a tenured academic appointment in the department is required.
The salary range for this position is $180,000-$225,000 for a 12-month appointment. Offers higher than the published salary range might be considered to meet unique circumstances, qualifications, academic discipline, and experience.

Pay Ranges:
The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:
- Prior relevant work or industry experience.
- Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
- Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
- Unique applicable skills.
