CSCW/HCI Research Engineer F/M, PILOT project – PEPR eNSEMBLE (France 2030)

Inria Villers lès Nancy Villers lès Nancy, France

About the position

Context
The position will be hosted at
Inria Centre at Université de Lorraine
.
The Research Engineer will work in close collaboration with the coordinators of PILOT:
Myriam Lewkowicz, Claudia Ignat, and François Charoy
.
The PILOT project is recruiting a Research Engineer to contribute to the design and implementation of a repository dedicated to long-term collaboration. The position is part of the French PEPR eNSEMBLE research program, funded by France 2030, which aims to redefine digital collaboration through sociotechnical models and interoperable, secure, and sovereign collaborative platforms.
PILOT, one of the 5 targeted projects of PEPR eNSEMBLE, focuses on practices and infrastructures for long-term collaboration. It draws on emerging work practices, technological opportunities, regulatory change, and organizational contexts to design socio-technical systems that support sustainable collaboration over time.

Assignment
The Research Engineer will play a central role, particularly for Axis 1 “Understanding current and future forms of long-term collaboration,” by designing, developing, and maintaining a repository of up-to-date analyses, use cases, and reports on emerging forms of long-term collaboration, including their challenges and limitations. This repository is intended as a living resource to support reflexivity, comparison, and concept building, and to provide a foundation for the project’s later work on guidelines, tools, and visions.
The repository will be developed as a structured and sustainable resource gathering analyses, empirical cases, reports, and other project outputs relevant to long-term distributed collaboration. It is intended to serve as a national and international reference point for researchers, managers, policymakers, and other organizations seeking resources to support long-term collaboration (Li et al., 2021; Randall et al., 2018; Wulf et al., 2015).

Main activities
Design and implement the repository, including its overall structure, content organization, and technical architecture.
Collect, formalize, curate, and integrate project outputs such as analyses, use cases, reports, demonstrators, and related documentation.
Define metadata, classification schemes, and content management workflows to support comparison, navigation, reuse, and long-term maintenance of the repository.
Work closely with the researchers involved in Axis 1 and with the broader PILOT consortium to ensure the scientific relevance and usability of the repository.
Contribute to the dissemination and valorization of project results through documentation, presentations, and exchanges with project partners and stakeholders.
Help ensure the repository’s accessibility, coherence, sustainability, and alignment with the broader ambitions of PILOT and PEPR eNSEMBLE.
Skills
Experience in software development, database or platform design, knowledge organization, repository building, or research data structuring will be particularly valuable. The position requires the ability to work in an interdisciplinary research environment and to interact with academic and institutional partners. Strong written and spoken English is expected; knowledge of French would be an advantage, especially for integration into one of the host institutions in France, but it is not mandatory.
