DC 9: Space-Time Beams for and from Space-Time Metamaterials

Imperial College London Department of Physics London, United Kingdom

About the position

Doctoral Candidate position at the Department of Physics, Imperial College London, United Kingdom

Objectives:

  • Develop complex helical light fields for the excitation of space–time metamaterials
  • Experimentally generate and characterize non-separable space–time beams via hyperspectral imaging
  • Observe synthetic motion with circular acceleration and the corresponding synchrotron radiation

During the thesis, the candidate will develop core expertise in the generation and hyperspectral characterization of structured space–time light fields and their interaction with space–time metamaterials, further strengthened through secondments at UPNA (theory development) and Nireos (advanced spectroscopy techniques).

Starting date: February 2027

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Physics, Materials, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • You should not have a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment.
  • You must not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the United Kingdom for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the recruitment (this is a requirement from the funding authority).
