## Researcher in anthropology Researcher in Anthropology: Risk and Decision-Making in Polar Fieldwork ## Work assignments Work assignments include: - ethnographic observation of the research project - documenting and analysing processes of risk assessment and decision-making - attending and observing formal project meetings - observing the informal working environment and everyday interactions within the project - conducting interviews where relevant It is expected that the candidate participates in the research cruise The research is expected to result in: - peer-reviewed journal articles and other scholarly publications based on the ethnographic research findings - potentially, a policy brief outlining recommendations for policy and/or operational practice related to risk, infrastructure deployment, and the prioritisation of scientific activities in polar fieldwork settings ## Kvalifikasjonskrav You must holdan Ph.D. in anthropology or a related discipline. In addition, you must have experience in ethnography and observation-based analysis. It is an advantage if you have - knowledge of field science in marine and/or polar environments - a track record of relevant publications. Personal suitability will be given significant weight in the assessment. The successful candidate should demonstrate: - Strong capacity for independent judgment, initiative, and autonomous decision-making - Ability to work independently and adapt effectively in evolving and unpredictable situations - Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain trust in embedded research settings - Ability to work effectively in collaborative research environments - Strong written communication skills, including the ability to translate ethnographic material into research findings and recommendations for future practice Excellent oral and written knowledge of English is required. Working language in NPI is Norwegian, so knowledge of Norwegian or Scandinavian language will be beneficial. If you do not already speak Norwegian, we encourage you to develop your Norwegian language skills during your employment, as developing Norwegian language skills can help you engage more fully with colleagues, the institute, and the local community. To support this, we will cover the costs of Norwegian course that are successfully completed. If required, the person appointed must be able to be authorized for access to information classified as RESTRICTED.
