## Associate Professor of Organ Associate Professor of Organ ## About the Position The Norwegian Academy of Music is seeking an experienced and dedicated Associate Professor of Organ. This is a permanent 50% position, available from 1 August 2027. The primary area of expertise for the position is organ performance, though other disciplines within church music may also be relevant teaching areas. The responsibilities include teaching and supervising students, artistic development work, and administrative tasks related to academic activities. The successful candidate is expected to actively collaborate with colleagues in academic and artistic endeavours. Teaching and Supervision The teaching responsibilities include organ performance, improvisation, and liturgical organ playing for church music students at all levels, in accordance with current curricula. The position may also involve teaching other church music subjects, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Supervising doctoral-level students may also be part of the role. Teaching will be conducted in the form of individual instruction, group sessions, and masterclasses. The successful candidate is expected to take the initiative in planning and leading seminars and courses within their area of expertise, in collaboration with other faculty members. Participation in the preparation and execution of the Academy's entrance examinations and final assessments is also required. Research and Development The Associate Professor of Organ is expected to maintain a high level of academic and artistic competence, primarily through their own artistic practice and participation in various research and development projects. The successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to strengthening the research and development environment and the overall academic community at the Academy, in line with the Academy's strategic objectives. Research resources allocated to the position are to be utilised systematically and directed primarily toward institutionally relevant projects. Administrative Duties The successful candidate will participate in academic administrative tasks within their subject area and contribute to the broader administrative needs of the Academy. They are expected to utilise digital resources in organising and planning teaching activities and in communicating with students and colleagues. Collaboration with other faculty members in the field is essential, and strong administrative skills will be considered an advantage. Qualifications Applicants must document the following through their application and supporting materials: - Artistic qualifications at a high international level. - Broad performance experience across various concert and outreach formats. - Stylistic versatility in repertoire. - Competence in multiple church music disciplines. Emphasis will be placed on expertise in contemporary musical expressions within a church context. - In-depth knowledge of and insight into Norwegian church music traditions. - Relevant teaching and supervisory experience at a high level, with documented evidence of excellent results. The appointed candidate must have proficiency in Norwegian at a minimum of level B2 or commit to achieving such proficiency within three years of appointment. The academy will provide language training. Proficiency in Swedish or Danish is considered equivalent to Norwegian. Much of the teaching is conducted in English, and strong oral and written communication skills in English are required. In assessing candidates, special consideration will be given to specific qualifications, attributes, and experiences relevant to the responsibilities of the position, including the ability to collaborate, take initiative, and implement planned projects. Applicants must submit a systematic and comprehensive account of their teaching qualifications, based on education, course participation, and/or practical teaching experience, as an attachment to their application. It is a requirement for all associate professors to have developed strong skills in planning, executing, evaluating, and developing teaching and supervision through practical teaching experience, as well as through completion of a university-level pedagogical program (minimum 200 hours) or equivalent relevant courses. The requirement for completing such a program will not be emphasized in the ranking of applicants, but candidates who do not meet this requirement at the time of appointment will be required to do so within two years of employment. The Academy will provide the necessary courses. Applications will be evaluated by an expert committee. The primary emphasis will be on the submitted documentation of artistic and pedagogical qualifications. Initially, only applications with CVs and any attachments such as references, diplomas, and descriptions of pedagogical qualifications should be submitted via the electronic application portal. Following a preliminary assessment, selected candidates will be asked to submit additional documentation of artistic qualifications and other relevant materials. Documentation in physical formats, including audio and video recordings, must be submitted in four copies. Applications and all attachments that are to be considered must also be submitted in four copies. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a teaching demonstration and interview. The position is remunerated according to the main collective agreements in the state as an Associate Professor, with a starting salary ranging from NOK 750,000 to NOK 825,000 in a full-time position. For particularly qualified candidates, a higher salary may be considered. A statutory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted. The position is subject to the regulations governing employees at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
