About the position
The Department of Geological Sciences (IGV) is part of the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University. It comprises around 80 staff members, including teachers, researchers, doctoral students, and technical/administrative staff. We conduct internationally recognised research and education in geology, geochemistry and marine geosciences. The department combines classical geological disciplines with modern analytical and interdisciplinary approaches and maintains strong links with the Bolin Centre for Climate Research and the Baltic Sea Centre. We are seeking a service-oriented Education Coordinator to support the delivery and administration of geoscience education. The role encompasses distance education and administration, digital learning environments, international educational exchange collaborations (including Erasmus), and maintenance and development of digital courses within the department. The position is an educational administration and coordination role rather than a research or academic teaching position. The role provides practical and administrative support to teachers, study directors and administrative staff, while contributing to the quality and development of education and student support at IGV. Erasmus programme coordination constitutes a key responsibility and includes operational responsibility for the department's exchange activities. A good understanding of geoscience is essential for effective support to students and staff. Research time is not part of the position. Main responsibilities The position includes responsibility for and coordination of the following areas as required during the yearly cycle: Teaching support and student support for distance courses at the Department of Geological Sciences including providing formative feedback on digital learning platforms (e.g. Canvas, Moodle, or other web-based teaching tools). Administrative and technical support to teaching staff: managing course schedules in the scheduling system, managing and supporting students in the university’s administrative system (currently LADOK), and setting up course sites on digital learning platforms. Erasmus programme operational coordination, including administration (e.g. mobility online, LADOK) and management of incoming and outgoing exchange students, development of exchange agreements with international institutions, practical guidance to students related to course options and mobility within international exchanges. Providing administrative support for distance program examinations and digital assessment workflows. Optional/situational support during geological field excursions, including driving support, if required, related to teaching excursions and field courses. These duties may evolve over time in response to departmental needs and your skills and experience. The role requires close collaboration with teaching staff, program coordinators, administrative personnel, and international partners in relation to bachelor and master programs. Qualification requirements Required qualifications Bachelor degree in Geoscience or a closely related Earth Science discipline, at the time of appointment. Experience of university teaching, teaching support, educational administration or student support. Experience working with digital learning platforms and web-based education tools (e.g. Canvas, Moodle or equivalent). Strong organisational and administrative skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work closely with students and staff. Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative working and educational environment. Good competance in Swedish language and high proficiency in English and Geoscience terminology. Meritorious qualifications Master degree in Geosciences or a closely related Earth Science discipline Experience in Erasmus or international exchange administration Experience in digital examinations and online assessment workflows Familiarity with TimeEdit or similar scheduling systems Familiarity with Canvas/Moodle and related educational technologies Experience or demonstrated interest in using AI-supported tools and digital innovations to enhance teaching, student interaction, and the efficiency of educational support. Knowledge of administrative and educational routines at Stockholm University A driving licence is considered a merit, as the role may include limited participation in field excursions. Particular emphasis will be placed on the candidate's ability to combine geoscience knowledge with strong educational coordination, administrative and interpersonal skills.
