Impact & Stakeholder Coordinator

the Faculty of Science Utrecht, Netherlands

About the position

Job description
Join the research project Past to Future (P2F), an ambitious Horizon Europe research consortium. The project’s overarching goal is to radically advance our capacity to anticipate future climate changes and tipping points by utilizing Earth's deep climate history. As Impact & Stakeholder Coordinator, you will play a key role in connecting our groundbreaking research with the right audiences. Additionally, you will help ensure the project runs smoothly by supporting the management team with project-related tasks.
Your job
As Impact & Stakeholder Coordinator, you will be the link between
P2F’s
scientific advancements and their application in policy and society. Your role is essential for translating complex research into actionable insights for diverse audiences.
You will join the Management Team of the P2F project. The research consortium consists of 22 European partners and 3 international associated partners. You will be based at Utrecht University (UU), working alongside two dedicated Project Managers. A core component of this role is to serve as a bridge to Cardiff University, working in close daily collaboration with P2F’s Senior Public Engagement and Impact Manager who coordinates the overall Dissemination, Exploitation and Communication (DEC) of P2F. This partnership is vital for aligning our management and outreach teams in Utrecht and Cardiff. The position therefore includes one or two work visits to Cardiff to strengthen these operational links and co-develop project-wide strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder engagement:
Monitor and coordinate the overall stakeholder engagement strategy to non-scientific target groups, including stakeholder mapping, in close collaboration with the Cardiff team.
Support the dissemination of project results to relevant scientific stakeholders and maintain active communication with the project’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), particularly to promote the uptake and long-term impact of the project’s core outcomes.
Communication and Outreach:
Collaborate with the communications officer from the related EMBRACER project to reach diverse target groups within the Netherlands, and potential role-out of activities to European partners.
Set up and supervise student projects to produce visual communication materials, interviews, and other creative outputs regarding P2F research.
Further develop the P2F website, manage and track the project’s social media presence and translate complex scientific papers into engaging and accessible content for the website and social media channels.
Join relevant working groups, e.g. joint-policy initiatives from the Climate Research Communication Network.
Project Support & Reporting:
Maintain the continuous EU reporting of DEC project activities in the EC Funding & Tenders Portal, ensuring all outreach events and publications are accurately logged.
Provide general consortium management support to the UU leadership team, particularly during reporting peaks and the organization of General Assembly Meetings.

Requirements
Academic background (Master’s degree at a minimum) in climate/environmental science, climate policy, climate communication, or a closely related field;
Experience in building networks and facilitating collaboration across different organizational cultures and with diverse external stakeholders.
Strong communication skills, with a proven ability to translate complex scientific jargon into accessible narratives for the general public and policymakers.
Familiarity with the Dutch and/or European climate research and policy landscape, and experience engaging relevant stakeholders. An established network in these fields is an advantage, as the role requires building connections and developing effective engagement activities within a relatively short project timeframe.
Digital proficiency, including experience managing website content and utilizing social media tracking/amplification tools.
Fluency in English (the project’s working language) is required. While not mandatory, proficiency in Dutch is a strong asset for engaging with local stakeholders and aligning with national projects.
Nice to have:
Project coordination experience, specifically in supervising student groups or managing small-to-medium scale events.
Experience with EU project management or reporting (Horizon Europe/H2020), specifically regarding DEC plans and impact tracking.

Conditions of employment
a position for one year (0.4 – 0.6 FTE), with the possibility of an extension until the end of the project on 1 March 2029, after a positive evaluation;
a gross monthly salary, depending on qualifications and experience, between €3.706 and €5.760 (salary scale 10 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU)). The salary is based on a 38-hour working week;
8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.
In addition to the terms of employment set out in our collective labour agreement, we offer attractive additional benefits, including opportunities for
personal and professional growth
, flexible leave arrangements, and extra vacation days. Through the UU Terms of Employment Options Model, you can tailor your employment package to your needs. In this way, we encourage you to grow in what you do, both in your work and in your development. Read more about

P2F
is an ambitious Horizon Europe research consortium consisting of 22 European partners and 3 international associated partners.
The project’s overarching goal is to radically advance our capacity to anticipate future climate changes and tipping points by utilizing Earth's deep climate history. Currently, Earth System Models (ESMs) are validated only against the relatively stable instrumental records of the last ~170 years. P2F breaks this paradigm by integrating high-resolution geological records—such as ice cores, marine sediments, and tree rings—directly into the development and tuning cycles of state-of-the-art climate models. Highly interdisciplinary in nature, the project unites climate modelers, geochemists, mathematicians, ecologists, and archaeologists to understand the cascading impacts of past rapid transitions on ecosystems and ancient human societies.
Ultimately, P2F aims to deliver the robust, "stress-tested" climate projections and regional impact analyses needed to inform international policy assessments (such as the IPCC and IPBES) and strengthen European adaptation and water resilience strategies.
