About the position

Background of the recruitment and description of the project Yokohama City University invites applications for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology at the School of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and research in the fields and courses listed below and for leading the clinical departments at Yokohama City University Hospital and Yokohama City University Medical Center. The Department of Neurology specializes in the full spectrum of neurological diseases, including cerebrovascular disorders with a focus on stroke, neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), dementia, neuroimmunological disorders, and epilepsy. The department provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care from acute neurological conditions to chronic neurological diseases. The department plays a leading role in neurological care in the region through a network of 22 affiliated hospitals in Yokohama and Kanagawa Prefecture and offers a rich clinical environment in both neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases. Research focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of neurological disorders, particularly neurodegenerative diseases, through translational research integrating genetic analysis, iPS cells, animal models, neuroimaging, and clinical studies. As the burden of neurological diseases increases and stroke care becomes increasingly sophisticated, further enhancement of clinical services and collaboration with affiliated institutions is required. The continued growth of the department also calls for the strengthening of education, training of future leaders, and effective departmental management. The next Chair is expected to provide leadership in clinical practice, education, and research; strengthen collaboration with affiliated institutions; foster future leaders; and contribute to the continued advancement of the department and the field of neurology. Work content and job description Clinical practice, education, and research in the Department of Neurology, School of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine Description Requirements: Applicants must meet the following 1 to 10 1. Those who hold a medical license valid in Japan. 2. Those who hold a doctoral degree in medical science. 3. Those certified as a Board-Certified Internist or General Internal Medicine Specialist by the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine (the latter preferred), and as a Neurology Specialist by the Japanese Society of Neurology (Instructor certification preferred). 4. Those with comprehensive expertise in neurological diseases, including cerebrovascular disorders, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), dementia, epilepsy, and neuroimmunological disorders; an outstanding clinical record from acute to chronic neurological care; the ability to guide department members; and a strong interest in rare neurological diseases. 5. Those who demonstrate strong academic leadership (e.g., involvement in guideline development, active participation in academic societies, or experience leading specified clinical research, investigator-initiated clinical trials, or international collaborative research). 6. Those with leadership to further develop the Department of Neurology through collaboration with faculty, other clinical departments, and medical staff, while contributing to regional healthcare in Kanagawa Prefecture. 7. Those with strong research achievements and external funding (e.g., Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Category A or B), and the ability to advance both basic and evidence-based clinical research. 8. Those committed to internationally oriented medical education and able to mentor residents, fellows, medical students, and graduate students with enthusiasm. 9. Those who value diversity, can ensure smooth departmental management, and contribute to the development of the department and the university. 10. Those who, as Professor and Chair, can oversee education, research, and clinical operations at Yokohama City University Hospital and Yokohama City University Medical Center.
