About the position
The department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Berkeley, invites application for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach courses in Arabic, Person, Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Hebrew, Biblical Hebrew, Cuneiform, Hittite, Ancient Egyptian, Sumerian, Akkadian, Nubian and general Middle Eastern cultures should the need arise during Summer 2026, Fall 2026, Spring and Summer 2027. Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): teaching one or more sections of a lecture course (or courses) and attending all lectures; advising students and holding regular office hours; assigning grades; preparing course materials; and maintaining a course website. Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Advanced degree (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in an advanced degree (or equivalent international degree) program. Preferred qualifications MA degree (or equivalent international degree) in relevant fields of language and literature, cultures or related fields. Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in teaching relevant field of Middle Eastern culture, preferably in a college or university setting.
