About the position
The Department of Scandinavian at UC Berkeley welcomes applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses, should a departmental need arise, in any of the following possible areas: • Nordic Languages • Reading and Composition (first- and second-year undergraduate writing courses in English on Nordic topics, using Nordic literature in translation) • Nordic Literature and/or Culture (may include History, Film, Politics, and/or other related topics) General Duties: In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and interacting with students outside of class time via email and campus web based course resources. The department seeks candidates who can support the success of all students through inclusive curriculum, classroom environment, and pedagogy. Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Completed Master’s degree (or equivalent international degree) Preferred qualifications Completed PhD in Scandinavian studies (or international equivalent degree) or closely related field strongly preferred Fluency in English language Fluency in the Nordic language to be taught in this position, if applicable Experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level in the U.S. If hired to teach R&C, demonstrated experience teaching reading and writing in English If hired to teach a language course, professional training in language teaching Demonstrated expertise of Nordic literature and culture
