About the position
Job description
Are you excited about designing digital innovations for sustainable healthcare and eager to support Dutch care organizations in reducing medication waste while ensuring safe and compliant care? Join us as a PhD candidate on the NWO project REMARK.
Information
Healthcare organizations are under increasing pressure to become more sustainable while continuing to deliver safe, high-quality, and compliant care. Circular care pathways offer opportunities to reduce waste and improve resource utilization, but they also introduce new challenges. Healthcare organizations need to track resources across organizational boundaries, ensure compliance with regulations and quality standards, and monitor increasingly complex processes involving multiple stakeholders.
Existing healthcare information systems provide only limited support for monitoring circular processes and demonstrating compliance throughout the care pathway. As healthcare systems transition from linear to circular models, new methods are needed to continuously monitor processes, detect deviations, assess compliance risks, and provide actionable insights to healthcare professionals and managers.
In this PhD project, you will investigate how process-aware information systems can support the monitoring and governance of circular care pathways. You will develop novel methods that use event data and healthcare process information to provide visibility into the execution of care pathways and identify opportunities for improving compliance, transparency, and sustainability. A central goal is to understand how organizations can continuously monitor circular healthcare processes and ensure that circular interventions remain safe and compliant with regulatory requirements.
You will become member of the Information Systems group within the Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences at Eindhoven University of Technology. Your work is embedded in the NWO KIC funded REMARK project, in which a multidisciplinary consortium investigates how circular healthcare pathways can be designed and implemented in practice. For this project, you will collaborate with researchers from multiple universities, Dutch healthcare organizations and industry partners, giving you a unique opportunity to achieve both scientific and societal impact.
Requirements
You hold a master’s degree in Information Systems or a closely related field such as Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or Innovation Science
You have a research-oriented attitude and have interest in Healthcare and Design Science Research.
You have interest in working with conceptual and process modelling approaches (e.g., BPMN, CMMN, DMN, goal modelling) as well as data-driven process analysis; prior experience is a plus.
You have the ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team involving academic and industrial partners.
You have the ability to translate research outcomes into practical tools and insights for stakeholders.
You are proactive, independent, and organized, with the ability to contribute to research management activities and coordinate tasks with partners and experts across the consortium
You are motivated to contribute to teaching and student supervision.
You have a strong publication ambition, targeting high-quality peer-reviewed journals and conferences in Information Systems and related fields, and motivation to participate in dissemination activities targeting healthcare stakeholders
You are fluent in spoken and written Dutch and English (C1 level).
