About the position
The Centre for Research Ethics and Bioethics (CRB) is an interdisciplinary centre located at the Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences at Uppsala University. The centre’s researchers hold degrees in medicine, healthcare, ethics, philosophy, and law, and examine the ethical, philosophical, and legal aspects of biomedical research and clinical practice. Duties We are seeking a PhD candidate to empirically investigate patients’ experiences, preferences, and perceptions of what constitutes high-value rehabilitation following amputation. The PhD candidate will primarily conduct international preference studies using the Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) methodology to examine how patients value different aspects of rehabilitation, such as access to care, waiting times, prosthetic device characteristics, independence, social participation, and quality of life, and how these preferences may vary across patient groups and healthcare systems. This is an interdisciplinary EU-funded project, named ThRIVE, in which the PhD candidate will join an international research team with expertise in ethics, rehabilitation, prosthetics and orthotics, biomechanics, health economics, and preference research. The project is closely integrated with international research networks and offers opportunities to build a strong international academic network. The work will include data wrangling and statistical analyses in RStudio, as well as developing DCE designs using tools such as Ngene and Sawtooth. The project is based at the Centre for Research Ethics & Bioethics (CRB) in the Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences at Uppsala University. We are looking for a motivated and independent individual who can take initiative, solve problems, and work in a structured and quality-conscious manner. Experience with RStudio is considered an advantage. The PhD candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment in which individuals with diverse backgrounds, qualifications, and areas of expertise collaborate to conduct innovative research.
