PhD Studentship: Cerebellar Contributions to Respiratory Motor Learning

University of Birmingham Birmingham, United Kingdom

About the position

Plasticity is a fundamental property of robust biological systems to maintain homeostasis. Respiration is a vital movement that facilitates tissue oxygenation. Plasticity in respiratory control ensures maintenance of blood-gas homeostasis across the lifespan. Mechanisms underpinning respiratory neuroplasticity are not well known in humans but may involve the cerebellum. This research will provide novel insight into the physiological mechanisms underpinning adaptive/learned respiratory behaviours.

Funding notes:

This is a PhD studentship with the Midlands Integrated Biosciences Training Partnership, funded by BBSRC and in partnership with the University of Warwick, University of Birmingham, Aston University, Harper Adams University, Coventry University, and the University of Leicester.
