About the position
Job description
Are you passionate about the mathematical aspects of gravity? Join the Department of Mathematics as a postdoctoral researcher and contribute to our research on the large-scale geometry and dynamics of spacetimes. We provide a stimulating research environment in an international team at the interface of mathematics and physics.
We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher in Mathematics with expertise in mathematical relativity, broadly interpreted to include Lorentzian geometry, geometric analysis, and partial differential equations related to general relativity. You will work under the supervision of
Dr Annegret Burtscher
on problems related to non-smooth spacetime geometries and spacetimes with singular boundaries appearing in general relativity. The position is part of the Vidi project 'Spacetimes near the Boundary of Existence', funded by the Dutch Research Council.
You will be encouraged to participate in relevant conferences, workshops and seminars, and to communicate your findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals. There are no teaching obligations but, if so desired, a light teaching load or supervision tasks can be arranged.
Requirements
You hold a PhD in Mathematics or expect to obtain such a degree before the starting date.
You have demonstrable interest and experience in the field of mathematical relativity, with a focus on geometric analysis, Lorentzian geometry and/or partial differential equations related to general relativity.
You have an excellent academic publication record in the field relative to your career stage.
You can work independently and collaboratively in an international research team and multidisciplinary research environment.
You have excellent writing and communication skills in English.
Conditions of employment
We will give you a temporary employment contract of two years based on full-time employment. The position can be filled on a part-time basis, with a minimum appointment of 0.8 FTE. For part-time appointments, the contract duration will be extended proportionally.
Your salary within
salary scale 10
depends on your previous education and number of years of (relevant) work experience. The amounts in the scale are based on a 38-hour working week.
You will receive an 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3% end-of-year bonus.
You will receive extra days off. With full-time employment, you can choose between
30 or 41 days
of annual leave instead of the statutory 20.
Additional employment conditions
Work and science require good employment practices. This is reflected in Radboud University's primary and secondary
employment conditions
. You can make arrangements for the best possible work-life balance with flexible working hours, various leave arrangements and working from home. You are also able to compose part of your employment conditions yourself, for example, exchange income for extra leave days and receive a reimbursement for your sports subscription. And of course, we offer a good pension plan. You are given plenty of room and responsibility to develop your talents and realise your ambitions. Therefore, we provide various training and development schemes.
