About the position

Postdoctoral Research Fellow Opening

We are recruiting 1–2 Postdoctoral Researchers in the research group at Shantou University, China. The research focuses on laser cladding, additive manufacturing, tribology and wear behavior of metallic materials. Candidates under the age of 35 with strong interest and background in metal materials are highly encouraged to apply.

Research Topics (adjustable)

  • Design, process optimization and microstructure control of laser cladding coatings
  • Additive manufacturing of metallic alloys (HEAs, Ti alloys, Cu-based alloys, etc.), including defect formation, phase transformation and microstructural stability
  • Tribological performance and wear mechanisms of metals under dry and lubricated sliding conditions, interface evolution during friction
  • Environment-assisted degradation of tribological properties, such as hydrogen-induced phase transformation in brass (optional, keep if relevant)

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines (obtained or expected within the next 3 months). PhD graduation within 3 years and lower than 35 years old is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in at least one of the following areas: laser cladding / laser additive manufacturing, tribology testing, microstructural characterization (OM, SEM, EBSD, XRD, AFM), heat treatment and alloy phase transformation.
  • Proven publication record as first author in peer-reviewed SCI journals. Capable of independently designing experiments, analyzing data and writing manuscripts.
  • Good communication skills in English. Self-motivated, responsible and willing to collaborate within the team.

Benefits & Support

  • Competitive salary package (280k RMB/year, performance bonus excluded). Eligible to apply for the National Postdoctoral Program for Innovative Talents, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation and other research grants.
  • Annual school reward: awarded the National Natural Science Foundation of China Youth Project, with an increase of 40k Yuan in annual salary; Obtained a general project, with an annual salary increase of 80k Yuan. Research achievements can participate in school research awards, and non overseas and non in-service postdoctoral fellows can enjoy benefits such as social insurance, housing provident fund, and holiday subsidies.
  • Full access to well-equipped lab facilities: laser cladding / additive manufacturing system, tribometers, and a complete suite of material characterization tools.
  • Financial support for attending international conferences and academic collaborations. Candidates are encouraged to lead sub-projects and publish independently.
  • Administrative support for postdoc enrollment, settlement and related welfare. Outstanding candidates will have priority for future faculty or research positions after completion of the postdoc appointment.
  • Appointment term: 2–3 years, renewable based on performance.
