About the position
Position Description Applications are solicited for one or more postdoctoral positions in theoretical quantum condensed matter physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be expected to carry out research in the general area of the theory of quantum materials and related quantum many-body systems and to interact with the condensed matter community at MIT. Postdoctoral scholars at MIT are appointed for 1-year terms. The cumulative duration of the position (including the initial term and all subsequent extensions) is three years. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a brief description of research interests and goals (the latter NOT TO EXCEED 3 PAGES IN LENGTH). Applicants should also arrange to upload three letters of reference. Only web submissions will be accepted. The deadline for applications and all materials is October 23, 2026. Candidates nominated for the MIT Pappalardo Fellowship competition for 2027-28 will be automatically considered and need not apply separately for this position. To qualify, applicants must have completed their Ph.D. degree by the appointment start date. Annual Pay Range Min: $73,308 Annual Pay Range Max: $90,000 MIT provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the Institute reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience and education/training, internal peer equity, and applicable legal requirements.
