Project description
This project aims to develop and apply advanced numerical simulation techniques to investigate the long-term dynamical evolution of planetary and cometary systems around single and binary stars. Stars are typically born in stellar clusters, where gravitational interactions and close stellar encounters can significantly influence the early formation and evolution of their planetary systems. Later in their lives, as stars evolve away from the main sequence and undergo mass loss, the resulting changes in their gravitational environment can substantially alter the orbital dynamics and stability of surrounding planets and minor-body populations. In binary systems, the interplay between stellar evolution, mass transfer, and gravitational interactions introduces additional complexity, potentially leading to a wide range of dynamical outcomes. This project intends to study these interconnected processes by developing and employing state-of-the-art numerical methods that combine gravitational dynamics with detailed models of stellar and binary evolution.
Main responsibilities
The main responsibilities for this position are research in the context of the project. If mutually agreed, certain departmental duties may also be undertaken, for example within education or outreach. However, these additional duties can never exceed 20% of the working hours.
Qualification requirements
In order to qualify for a Postdoctoral position, applicants are required to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent relevant degree from another country. The degree must have been completed no later than when the employment decision is made.
Assessment criteria
It is considered an advantage if the doctoral degree or an equivalent degree was completed no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Under special circumstances, an older degree may also be an advantage. Special circumstances refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills.
About the employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2027-02-01 or as per agreement.
