About the position
The Department of Pharmacy at Uppsala University has an interdisciplinary environment at the center of the pharmaceutical arena. With frontline research, first-rate education and extensive collaborations we constitute a driving force in the development of our academic field. In this inspiring environment our rich diversity of research groups, several of international prominence, develop and conduct work of great scientific importance. Among our core competencies are computational modelling and simulations, PKPD, in vitro ADME models, advanced in vivo methods, biological medicines, as well as patient and societal aspects, from optimising the use of drugs in individuals to societal pharmaceutical policies. Together, we form a unique cluster of academic competencies within pharmaceutical science, playing a key role in shaping the future of pharmacy in both Sweden and globally. Our scientific focus areas include: Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics • Pharmacometrics • Clinical Pharmacy • Advanced Drug Delivery • Molecular Pharmaceutics • Biological Drugs • Pharmacoepidemiology • Social Pharmacy More information www.farmaci.uu.se Duties/Project: Pharmacometric models describe the time course of disease and the effects of drugs on these time courses. The research group in Pharmacometrics is involved in methodological research concerning principles and approaches for the development and use of these types of models, as well as applied development and use of models in specific therapeutic areas to enhance the understanding of diseases and the effects of treatment, in order to streamline the development of new drugs and improve therapy with existing medicines. Much of our research is done in international collaboration with universities, industry and regulatory agencies in Europe, USA, Africa, Asia and Australia. The research team is international, with more than 12 nations and many areas of expertise (pharmaceutical sciences, engineering sciences, medicine, statistics and mathematics) represented. For more information about our research: Pharmacometrics We are now recruiting one postdoctoral fellow with a focus on regulatory science. The position is funded through an externally financed research project carried out in close collaboration with a drug regulatory agency. The project develops and evaluates model-based approaches for the design and analysis of clinical studies that support regulatory decision making, with the aim of making such studies more informative, efficient and robust. The work includes methodological development in pharmacometrics and biostatistics, extensive simulation studies to evaluate the statistical properties of the developed methods, analysis of clinical data, and implementation of the methods in open-source software in R. You will write scientific articles and technical reports, present results at international conferences, and take part in the ongoing dialogue with our partners in regulatory agencies and academia. Some supervision of students may also be included in the position. Qualifications: To qualify for an employment as a postdoctor you must have a PhD degree, or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree, in pharmacometrics, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, statistics, biostatistics or a related field. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Priority will be given to applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the deadline for applications. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc. We place great emphasis on personal suitability and motivation to improve methods within pharmacometrics and regulatory science. The applicant must be able to express themselves well, both orally and in writing, in English. Special merits: Experience of nonlinear mixed effects modelling (for example NONMEM, nlmixr2 or Monolix). Experience of clinical trial simulation and study design. Knowledge of statistical methodology for hypothesis testing and estimation of uncertainty. Good programming skills in R, preferably including development of software or R packages. Experience of regulatory questions or of collaboration with drug regulatory agencies. Interest in, and skill in, scientific writing is highly desirable, as is experience of collaborating in international networks. Application: The application should include: a motivation letter with a brief description of the candidate and research interests, as well as experiences in relation to the requirements and qualifications listed above, and the topics pharmacometrics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, biostatistics and regulatory science the candidate's CV copies of diplomas and certificates recommendation letters, as well as other relevant documents that the applicant wishes to refer to, such as proficiency in English About the employment The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement. Full time position. Starting date 2027-01-04 or as agreed.
