About the position
Position Description
University of the Basque Country (EHU) - EHU Quantum Center
Job description:
Applications are invited for up to three (3) postdoctoral positions in theoretical physics at the Department of Physics of the University of the Basque Country (EHU), in the Bilbao metropolitan area, Spain, with an expected starting date around September 2027. The positions are funded by the Basque Government and will be for two years.
Candidates working in any of the following areas, as well as at their interfaces, are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Early-Universe Cosmology (inflation and early-Universe dynamics, topological defects, primordial black holes and gravitational waves,...)
- Observational Cosmology and Astrophysics (dark matter and dark energy, large-scale structure, observational cosmology, gravitational lensing, and neutrino cosmology and astrophysics,...)
- Gravitation (general relativity, relativistic astrophysics, black holes, loop quantum gravity and quantum cosmology,...)
- Particle Physics (QCD, heavy-ion physics, neutrino physics, quantum computing for high-energy physics, supergravity and string theory,...)
The research community associated with the positions includes, in alphabetical order, Asier Alonso-Bardaji, Igor Bandos, José J. Blanco-Pillado, Mariam Bouhmadi-López, David Brizuela, Tom Broadhurst, Miguel G. Echevarría, Iván Esteban, Iñaki Garay, Ruth Lazkoz, Joanes Lizarraga, Asier López-Eiguren, Juan Luis Mañes, Andrey Sadofyev, Gunar Schnell, Kepa Sousa, Sara F. Uria, Ander Urio, Mikel Urkiola, Jon Urrestilla, and Raül Vera, together with postdoctoral researchers and graduate students.
The positions will be embedded in a broad and active research environment, with strong connections to the EHU Quantum Center and extensive international collaborations in cosmology, gravitation, particle physics and related areas.
Salary:
The expected gross annual salary is approximately €47,000, typically corresponding to around €2,500 net per payment over 14 payments, depending on personal and tax circumstances.
Applicant Qualifications:
Applicants should hold, or be about to obtain, a PhD in Physics or a closely related field by the starting date of the appointment.
Application Materials:
- Curriculum vitae including a publication list
- Research statement
- Three (3) reference letters, to be submitted directly by the reference writers through AcademicJobsOnline
Apply via: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/33249
*** Applicants should select in the application form the research area that best matches their application.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the scientific fit of the candidate’s expertise and research plans with the group, and on the potential for fruitful interaction and collaboration (publication volume alone will not be the determining criterion). Applicants are therefore encouraged to explain in their research statement how their interests could connect with and complement the research activities of the group.
Administrative note:
Appointments are subject to the administrative requirements of the University of the Basque Country (EHU). Candidates holding a PhD awarded outside Spain should be aware that an official declaration of equivalence to the Spanish doctoral level may be required before the employment contract can be formalised. Selected candidates will receive guidance regarding the necessary administrative procedures.
Application Deadline: December 13, 2026.
