About the position
Location: Department of Materials, Begbroke Science Park, Oxford About this role and project Optically addressable solid-state electronic spins are central to emerging quantum technologies, such as optical quantum networks and quantum sensors. While spins associated with defects have received much attention, molecular spins are particularly promising due to their unique chemical tunability. However, there are few molecular systems where optically detected magnetic resonance has been demonstrated under ambient conditions. Our group is interested in forming an understanding of the molecular design rules that govern the excited state dynamics, optical properties, spin initialisation and spin coherence timescales for various molecules. This postdoctoral position will involve the study of excited and ground state molecular spins using a homebuilt optically detected magnetic resonance setup. In collaboration with researchers in Oxford and Cambridge, we will form a structure-function relationship for molecular spin qubit candidates. This work complements our research on spin defects in solid-state materials (hBN), and links with existing collaborations we have on molecular spins across the Departments of Chemistry and Physics in Oxford. We are looking for an excellent post-doctoral candidate with a PhD degree (or near completion) in molecular spin physics, EPR, ODMR, solid state quantum physics, or related areas. The successful candidate will be part of our research team and involved in designing and implementing experiments, disseminating our work via writing research articles and giving oral presentations at conferences and participating in the training and management of PhD students.
