About the position

Position Description

The research group of Professor Yizhi You in the Department of Physics at Northeastern University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in condensed matter theory and quantum information science.

The successful candidate will conduct theoretical research at the interface of quantum information science and quantum many-body physics. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, dissipative and decohering quantum many-body systems, nonequilibrium phases and dynamics, quantum-information approaches to many-body physics, quantum dynamics and complexity, neural quantum states (NQS) and AI-assisted approaches to quantum information.

The successful candidate will primarily work under the supervision of Prof. Yizhi You and will also be encouraged to interact and collaborate with other faculty members at Northeastern University and the broader Boston-area quantum science community.

A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field is required by the start date. Candidates with strong analytical or numerical backgrounds are encouraged to apply. In particular, experience with DMRG, tensor-network methods, quantum Monte Carlo (QMC), neural quantum states, machine-learning methods, or related computational approaches is highly desirable.

The anticipated start date is Summer 2027, with the possibility of an earlier start by mutual agreement. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal by mutual agreement. Compensation is competitive, and research travel support will be available. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Interested applicants should apply directly through this website and submit:

  • a cover letter briefly describing their research interests;
  • a curriculum vitae, including a list of publications;
  • a research statement describing previous work and future research interests; and
  • contact information for 2–3 references.

Applicants should also arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be submitted directly through the application site.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Physics or a related field by the start of the appointment.
