About the position

Position Description

Postdoctoral Scholar in Theoretical Physics at Northwestern University

Professor Ian Low’s group at Northwestern University invites applications for one or more postdoctoral positions in theoretical physics, to begin in Fall 2027.

We welcome candidates with expertise in quantum field theory, quantum many-body physics, particle and nuclear physics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and quantum information and quantum simulations. Researchers whose work connects these areas, or complements existing interests, are especially encouraged to apply.

Members in the group engage in a wide range of research, including quantum information and simulation, AI/ML, quantum many-body systems, and physics within and beyond the Standard Model at current and future colliders. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue an active research program that strengthens and extends current research efforts.

The appointment is a nominal term of three years, contingent upon the availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Applications should be submitted via AJO website.

For full consideration, all materials should be received by January 8, 2027. Applications received after this date may be reviewed if positions remain available. A complete application must include: a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a description of the candidate’s research interests and plans, and three letters of reference.

Applications will be automatically considered for possible joint positions with nearby national laboratories.
