As a societal institution, we shall contribute to sustainable and democratic development and be an attractive and inclusive place to study and work. ## Postdoctoral Research Fellow position There is a vacancy for a postdoctoral research fellow position at SLATE, Faculty of Psychology, within the fields of creativity, education and artificial intelligence. The position is for a period of 3 years and is associated with the AI LEARN centre. ## About AI LEARN AI LEARN is a new national interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral initiative. The centre aims to understand and shape the human aspects of interaction with and through the use of AI. The goal is to ensure the sustainable, inclusive and responsible integration of AI in both the public and private sectors, to strengthen human agency, and to help everyone participate safely and critically in a society characterised by AI. AI LEARN is a consortium consisting of 33 national and international partners from academia and the public and private sectors. Six national research centres for Artificial Intelligence were launched in the fall of 2025. These centres will foster interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers to address societal challenges, understand the impact of AI, develop new technologies, and drive innovation across both the business and public sectors. This initiative is established and financed through the government's significant investment in artificial intelligence over the next five years (regjeringen.no) (in Norwegian) ## About the project/work tasks: The successful candidate is expected to participate in the centre’s Hybrid Intelligence cluster. The work tasks will include: - Conducting independent research on human-AI collaboration and creativity. - Publishing research in international peer-reviewed journals. - Overseeing deliverables associated with the cluster. - Engage in empirical research (e.g., in schools, higher education, or industry) examining how generative AI tools support or constrain creativity, learning, and problem-solving in multi-agent settings. - Develop a theoretical model that explains how human–AI teams engage in co-creative processes. - Develop a set of applied resources (e.g., guidelines, workshop materials, training kit) for educators, leaders, and stakeholders to foster hybrid creativity in practice. - Contributing actively to the research environment at the Centre. The successful candidate is expected to live and work in Bergen and participate in common activities at the Centre. ## Qualifications and personal qualities: You must - hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree (PhD) in the learning sciences or another relevant social discipline or have submitted his/her doctoral thesis for assessment prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded before the date of commencement of the position - have documented research quality on AI, creativity, and learning, for example through publications in good international peer-reviewed journals or chapters - have excellent command of English, necessary for publishing in high-level international journals and participating in international conferences, seminars, and similar events - work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to collaborate with others It is an advantage if you - have experience setting up empirical studies in higher education and work life - have good knowledge of AI tools, including, but not limited to, large language models - have experience setting up and customsing AI agents - have good command of Norwegian ## We can offer: - Exciting development opportunities as part of your role in a strong professional environment - An annual salary of NOK 685 900 before taxes (position code 1352) according to the state salary scale. Further promotions are made according to length of service. If you have not yet completed your doctoral degree, you must submit an official confirmation that the doctoral thesis has been submitted. - The names and contact details of two referees. One of these must be the main PhD supervisor. - Complete list of publications. - Copies of up to 5 academic publications to be considered in the assessment.
