Background of the recruitment and description of the project Kanazawa University promotes transdisciplinary research that integrates the humanities, sciences, and medicine within its Faculty of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation. To further strengthen these efforts, we invite applications for a faculty position in Optimization of Social and Industrial Systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for research and education concerning the design, analysis, evaluation, and decision support of social and industrial systems utilizing mathematical optimization, mechanism design, data science, AI, IoT, and related technologies. Specific areas include mathematical optimization, operations research, mechanism design, matching, allocation problems, scheduling, decision support, simulation, data analysis, AI and IoT applications, supply chains, logistics systems, production and industrial systems, digital twins, smart factories, and manufacturing DX. The appointee is also expected to address issues involving resource allocation, matching, scheduling, logistics, supply chains, and production and service systems through data-driven analysis, modeling, optimization, simulation, institutional design, rule design, and decision support, thereby contributing to sustainable and efficient social and industrial systems. (1) Class duties: Undergraduate specialized education (College of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation), Graduate specialized education (Division of Convergence Science, Graduate School of Frontier Science Initiative): Kanazawa University provides education for students enrolled in the College of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation and the Division of Convergence Science, Graduate School of Frontier Science Initiative. This education is based on transdisciplinary sciences integrating the humanities, sciences, and medicine, as well as on the creation of convergent knowledge. The appointee will teach courses related to the above fields of expertise, as well as courses required by the College of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation and the Division of Convergence Science, Graduate School of Frontier Science Initiative. Examples include “Optimization in Society and Engineering,” “Network Mechanism Design,” “Smart Supply Chain,” “Practical Data Science,” and “Data Driven Society and Industry.” Depending on their expertise and teaching experience, the appointee may also teach courses related to industrial systems, logistics, production and service systems, digital twins, smart industry, smart infrastructure management, transportation and mobility, disaster prevention and crisis management, project-based learning, and other related courses. The specific courses to be assigned will be decided in consultation with the appointee, taking into consideration their preferences, background, and the University’s teaching needs. Note: Some of the courses listed above may be taught in English. (2) Non-class duties: Student guidance, research supervision, student recruitment, admissions, career guidance, social contribution, etc. (3) Other duties deemed necessary by the head of the affiliated organization. Common to all Job Types Annual Salary : 4 million yen ~ 10 million yen Description Applicants must meet all of the following requirements (1) The applicant must have a doctoral degree (including those who are expected to have a doctoral degree by the time of employment) or have educational and research capabilities equivalent to a doctoral degree. (2) The applicant must have outstanding research achievements both domestically and internationally in their respective field and be capable of engaging in education and research activities related to the specified field after joining the position. Additionally, they should demonstrate the ability to collaborate with faculty members for transdisciplinary education and research. (3) Nationality is not restricted. It is desirable that applicant possesses the ability to teach and supervise students in both English and Japanese, and to carry out university service (administrative duties) in Japanese. (4) The applicant must be able to live in Kanazawa or the surrounding area after being appointed. The interview and mock lectures will be conducted in either Japanese or English. In addition, depending on the backgrounds of the candidates, the courses to be assigned, and the needs of the selection process, candidates may be asked, to the extent possible, to conduct part of the interview or part of a mock lecture in the other language, or to provide additional explanations in the other language. Applicants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses, whether traveling from within Japan or from overseas. However, depending on the circumstances, the interview and mock lectures may be conducted online. Note: The fields of specialization and courses listed in this announcement are intended as guidelines and may overlap to some extent with the fields of the other open positions, "Digital Business Creation and Technology Management" and "Smart Social Systems and Regional Design."
