About the position

The Department of Medical Sciences is a large clinical department with around 250 employees and over 900 people affiliated through the Academic Hospital. The department has a broad research profile with strong research groups in a range of areas. The research takes place in close connection to the clinical activities at the Academic Hospital and includes both basic studies on the causes of diseases as well as the development and evaluation of improved diagnostics and new treatment methods. Within the research group 'Experimental Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience' (ECAN), led by Associate Professor Malin Gingnell, emotions and cognitive processes are studied from a neurobiological perspective. The work uses experimental psychology in the lab, online, and in combination with various brain imaging techniques (PET, MRI, EEG) to explore behavior and neurobiology in both healthy individuals and in different clinical populations. Duties In a series of research projects, we have explored how the placebo effect develops and affects the treatment of various conditions. In the current project, we are focusing on an experimental pain model and working on collecting psychophysiology data, EEG data, and using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in a lab setting. There are also tasks related to data collection in other projects within the research group. Requirements A completed or ongoing university education in psychology, medicine, biomedicine, or a related field is required for this position. Applicants must have completed at least 180 higher education credits (ECTS), or have otherwise acquired knowledge and skills that are deemed equivalent. Good knowledge of English is of utmost importance and fluency in Swedish is mandatory. Additional qualifications For the position, a background in experimental neuroscience, with experience in independently conducting psychological experiments, is considered an asset. Experience with psychophysiological measurement methods, EEG, and TMS is also valued. Great importance is also placed on other practical research experience, especially if this includes working with human participants in a clinical setting. Personal qualities such as independence, flexibility, and perseverance, along with the ability to collaborate, are valuable. About the employment The employment is a temporary position for 7 months. Scope of employment 40 % with working hours primarily scheduled during afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Some morning work may also be required. Starting date as agreed.
