About the position

Position Description

Do you have a background in quantum many-body physics, with expertise in topological phases of matter, lattice gauge theories, or quantum criticality? Are you interested in computational approaches to quantum many-body systems, such as tensor networks and neural quantum states? Would you like to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities?

We are advertising three separate projects in the field of quantum many-body physics:

(1) Topological quantum matter. The focus areas of this project include topological and geometric properties of fractional quantum Hall states and fractional Chern insulators, including their classical and quantum simulations (in particular, exact diagonalisation, matrix product state and neural quantum state methods, as well as quantum simulations). Some of our recent papers relevant to the position include:

(2) Far-from-equilibrium physics of lattice gauge theories. The focus areas of the project include many-body dynamics, ergodicity breaking, false-vacuum decay, etc. The project will also involve developing classical and quantum simulations of lattice gauge theories (in particular, via exact diagonalisation, matrix product state and neural quantum state methods, as well as quantum simulations). (3) Quantum criticality on the "fuzzy sphere". The focus areas of the project include conformal field theories in 2+1 dimension and their numerical simulations using the noncommutative geometry of the fuzzy sphere (in particular, via exact diagonalisation, matrix product state and neural quantum state methods).
