Research Technician in RNA biology

Karolinska Institute Huddinge kommun, Sweden

About the position

Research Technician in RNA Biology

A position as a Research Technician is available at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH), embedded within the Integrated Cardio Metabolic Centre (ICCA) unit located at the Neo building, Campus Flemingsberg/Huddinge. Our research group focuses on studying basic biological principles underlying RNA biology and uncovering functions of recently evolved RNA molecules in human health and disease. We offer an inspiring, highly collaborative, and international environment at the forefront of molecular medicine and intersection of basic and clinical research.

Your Mission

As a Research Technician, you will provide integral experimental and organizational support to the research team. Your duties will focus on routine laboratory maintenance and execution of core molecular biology and cell culture assays. Key responsibilities include:

  • Routine wet-lab support, including buffer/reagent preparation, chemical inventory management, ordering consumables, and general lab organization and safety compliance.
  • Molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, such as DNA/RNA extraction, purification, quantification, PCR/RT-qPCR, and preparation of RNA samples for downstream sequencing.
  • Cell culture maintenance, including routine expansion of mammalian cell lines and human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), transfections, immunocytochemistry, and functional plate reader assays.
  • Laboratory coordination, assisting researchers and students with experimental logistics, SOP maintenance, and freezer sample archiving.

Your Profile

We are looking for a candidate with a relevant background in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related life science field. You should have prior hands-on experience working in a laboratory setting, with practical knowledge of nucleic acid handling and cell culture technique. Experience with mammalian stem cell culture (iPSCs) or fluorescence microscopy is considered a strong merit.

As a person, you are highly structured, reliable, and meticulous with documentation and lab safety and organizational tasks. You enjoy working both independently and collaboratively within an international scientific team. Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken) are required, as English is the working language in the laboratory.

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.
