About the position
Description of the workplace The biomechanics research group is located within the Department of Biomedical Engineering, at the Faculty of Engineering. The research is focused on understanding the link between mechanics and biology in the musculoskeletal system, including related pathologies and repair of skeletal tissues. Experimental studies, tissue characterisation and computational simulation techniques are used. The research is applied on problems in orthopaedics to develop better methods to understand and improve repair of musculoskeletal tissues. The group encompasses 10-12 scientists (teachers, researchers, post-docs and PhD students) and is located at BMC in Lund. The group strives for an inclusive environment based on collaboration and trust, where development towards an independent researcher is largely encouraged and supported. The researcher will be actively working in the team within a funded by the European Research Council Proof of Concept grant with the scope to elucidate how mechanical loading affects tendon mechanics and tendon regeneration. The research group develops methods for computational and experimental mechanics of biological tissues, where the computational studies primarily are based on the finite element method and advanced material modelling. Work duties The main duty is to conduct research. The project is primarily computational and includes further developing and validating an existing adaptive mechanoregulatory model for tendon repair in humans. Description of the work duties: Responsibility for designing, planning, and performing numerical studies within the subject area Actively interacting within our team and with external national collaborators. Supervision of degree students and possibly supporting the supervision of doctoral students Supporting the group in seeking external research funding Administration connected to the duties above Qualifications Appointment to a position as a researcher requires that the applicant has a PhD. Required qualifications: Very good oral and written proficiency in English A PhD within biomedical engineering, physics, mechanical engineering or similar To be able to independently drive research projects of high quality and to have documented ability to write scientific publications Experience from supervising BSc, MSc theses or other kind of student work Other qualifications: A background in constitutive modelling and the finite element method Experience from using 3D clinical images to derive computational modelling geometries Experience from tissue musculoskeletal biomechanics Experience from studies of mechanobiolgical modelling Experience with multidisciplinary environments and collaborative research projects International networks and experience Personal suitability will be taken into account. Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department. We offer Lund University is a public authority which means that employees get particular benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension scheme. More about being a Lund University employee - on Lund University's webpage Further information The position is a fixed term position for 12 months, full-time. Researchers are covered by a local collective agreement on annual working hours for researchers and assistant researchers. The planning of annual working hours is done in agreement with the manager. How to apply Applications are to be submitted via the University’s recruitment system. The application should include a CV, publication list and a personal letter justifying your interest in the position and how it matches your qualifications. The application should also include a degree certificate or equivalent and any other document to which you would like to draw attention (copies of grade transcripts, details of referees, letters of recommendation, etc.) #DNI We look forward to receiving your application!
