About the position

Are you interested in working with solid-state theory, with the support of competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Are you looking for an employer that invests in sustainable employeeship and offers safe, favourable working conditions? We welcome you to apply for a researcher’s position at Uppsala University.
Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 54,000 students, more than 7,500 employees and a turnover of around SEK 8 billion.
The research conducted at the Department of Physics and Astronomy encompasses a wide range of physics topics, distributed over ten divisions. The department is located in the Ångström laboratory and employs nearly 400 people, 125 of whom are doctoral students. It offers a broad physics curriculum to undergraduate and graduate students, participation in nationally and internationally leading projects for researchers, and opportunities for partnership with industry and various outreach activities. More information can be found on our website www.physics.uu.se
Duties
The researcher will perform theoretical investigations and computationally based modelling within condensed matter physics. Currently within the group there is a strong focus on ultrafast out-of-equilibrium dynamics, laser-induced ultrafast spin dynamics, generation of non-equilibrium orbital and spin currents, and simulations of superconductivity in real materials.
The research tasks include the development of theoretical models and of computer simulation programs. The areas where the researcher can contribute are: theory and modeling of induced orbital currents, theory of laser-induced ultrafast spin dynamics and spin transport, theory for coupled out-of-equilibrium dynamics of electrons, magnons and phonons, theory and ab-initio calculations of superconductivity, and modeling of electrically induced magnetization dynamics in spintronic elements. Various computer programs, like first-principles methods (DFT and TDDFT), simulations of out-of-equilibrium dynamics and superconductivity will be used. In the project that is headed by Prof. Peter Oppeneer the researcher has the possibility to work in an exciting modern research area in solid-state physics and will have opportunities to interact and collaborate with leading experimental and theoretical groups.
Requirements
The applicant is expected to have a PhD degree in theoretical or computational physics. The applicant is further expected to have excellent capabilities to perform high-level research, as demonstrated through publications in peer-reviewed journals. Good communication skills both orally and in written English, and the ability to work independently, are required.
Additional qualifications
The applicant is further expected to be strongly motivated and a strong background in theoretical and condensed matter physics is desirable. Experience with large-scale computer simulations is also desirable, as well as the ability to perform computer code development.
About the employment
The employment is a
temporary 100% position for 1 year according to central collective agreement. Starting date: 01-12-2026 or as otherwise agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
