As a societal institution, we shall contribute to sustainable and democratic development and be an attractive and inclusive place to study and work. ## PhD position The Department of Biomedicine at the Faculty of Medicine, has a vacancy for a full-time PhD candidate for a period of three (3) years. The preferred start date for the position is 1 January 2027. The position is part of the project “Converging cancer neuroscience and immuno-oncology for a novel gene therapy against brain tumors”, funded by European Research Council. The project will explore how communication between astrocytes and glioblastoma cells influences neuron-to-glioma synapse formation and which molecular mechanisms determine these communication avenues. ## About the project/work tasks: - Perform in vitro and vivo experiments for the project - Analyze and interprete experimental data - Participate in manuscript writing - Supervise masters students ## Qualifications and personal qualities: - Applicants must hold a Master's degree or an equivalent qualification in Biomedicine or a related field. - Research experience in cancer neuroscience will be considered an advantage. - Experience with neuron-glioblastoma co-cultures, confocal microscopy, patch-clamp and animal handling and experimentation will be considered an advantage. - The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a structured manner, while also being capable of effective collaboration with others - Applicants must demonstrate both the motivation and the ability required to complete an independent PhD research project. - Proficiency in both written and spoken English is required. Special Requirements for the Position The University of Bergen is subjected to the regulations governing the Norwegian export control system. These regulations will be applied in the assessment and processing of the applications. Applicants whose educational qualifications are from countries other than Norway must provide a certified translation of the diploma and transcript of grades to English or a Scandinavian language, if the original documents are not in any of these languagees. It is also required that the applicant submit a review from the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir) to verify whether the education in question (bachelor and master's degree) is of a scope and level that corresponds to the level of a Norwegian master’s degree. Admission to the organized research training (PhD program) at the Faculty is essential for this position. Application for admission to the PhD programme, including a project plan outline for the training plan must be submitted no later than three months after the date of commencement. The PhD-position: PhD-positions are fixed term positions.
