About the position
At UCLA Lab School, the Substitute Teacher's primary responsibility is to maintain continuity and uphold the quality of instruction. This position serves as an English Language Substitute Teacher or Dual Language Substitute to provide instructional support while ensuring a consistent and engaging learning environment for students. The primary goal of this position is to effectively implement the lesson plans and instructional activities prepared by the classroom Demonstration Teacher, maintain established classroom routines, and support student learning during the teacher's absence.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications Minimum BA degree or equivalent. Experience working in a classroom setting Demonstrated experience working with children in a pre-K-6 educational environment. Ability to work and speak to people of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds to welcome and establish good working relationships with staff, parents and children. Ability to apply teaching theory and approaches to relevant classroom teaching. Skill to make learning aids which will strengthen lesson plans. Ability to supervise teaching assistants and students interns and instruct them in how to best support children in learning activities. Working knowledge of the core subjects at the grade level to which employment assignment is made in a pre-K to 6 grade environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work as a team player with colleagues and administrators. Ability to work independently and efficiently, exercising reasonable judgement, in a multi-task environment with minimal supervision. Proficient computer knowledge and previous experience with Mac OS software. Demonstrated experience working with children who have special educational and behavioral needs is preferred but not required. Fingerprint Clearance TB Clearance Willingness to be a “Mandated Reporter” for Child Abuse Preferred qualifications Fluent in Spanish Experience teaching in a dual language program preferred, but not required. Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Preferred, but not required. Bilingual Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development Certification Preferred, but not required.
