About the position
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering need to fill one tenure-track assistant professor position, shared by both departments. The departments are looking for candidates who apply modern software engineering to intelligent embedded and vehicular systems, in the broad areas of software engineering for embedded and on-vehicle artificial intelligence; the engineering, testing and assurance of agentic and multi-agent systems; the containerization and virtualization of machine learning and agent workloads on resource-constrained computing platforms; and continuous integration and over-the-air software delivery, including software- and hardware-in-the-loop testing, although outstanding candidates in other related areas will also be considered. The position will begin in January 2027. Candidates must show exceptional promise in both research and teaching. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an externally funded research program spanning both departments, and to teach and develop courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in each department. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to graduate curriculum development supporting the M.S. in Software Engineering and Information Technology, the M.S. in Artificial Intelligence, and the graduate programs in automotive and autonomous systems in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
This position is held jointly by two departments in the School of Engineering and Computer Science (SECS).
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers B.S. degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence; M.S. degrees in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering and Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence; a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Informatics; and a series of stackable graduate certificates.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers B.S.E. degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering, and Engineering Physics; M.S. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, and Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering; Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Systems Engineering; and graduate stackable certificates in Mechatronics and Robotics Fundamentals, Automotive Electrification, Automotive Mechatronics, Autonomous Vehicle Systems, Human-Robot Interactions, Robotic Systems, Systems Dynamics, and Systems and Controls.
