About the position

Description of the workplace The position is located in Vascular Biology research group focusing on cardiovascular and neurovascular disease, with a particular interest in mechanisms linking vascular dysfunction, inflammation, and sphingolipid signalling to organ damage. The group conducts translational research using experimental disease models and combines functional phenotyping with cellular, histological, and molecular methods. The associate researcher will contribute to the group’s work in experimental cardiovascular research, focusing on myocardial infarction and heart failure as well as immunological and sphingolipid-related mechanisms. The work is conducted in an international research environment and includes collaboration with other research groups and research infrastructures at Lund University. We offer Lund University is a government agency, which means you receive special benefits, generous vacation, and a favourable occupational pension. We offer an international and interdisciplinary research environment with access to established experimental models and advanced methods for cardiovascular phenotyping, cellular and molecular analysis, and imaging. The work provides opportunities to combine several methodological approaches to investigate mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease. Read more on the university’s website about being an employee at Lunds University, Work at Lund University | Lund University . Work duties and areas of responsibility You will work with experimental research on mechanisms contributing to the development and progression of cardiovascular disease, with a particular focus on myocardial infarction, subsequent cardiac dysfunction, and neurocardiovascular regulation. Your main work duties will include: Performing and analysing experimental models of myocardial infarction in rodents, including surgical ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD ligation). Performing and analysing cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for functional and structural characterisation of the heart. Analysing sympathetic and vagal innervation and neural pathways related to cardiovascular function. Performing tissue clearing and light-sheet microscopy for three-dimensional visualisation and quantitative analysis of neural and vascular structures. Performing histological, immunohistochemical, and molecular analyses of cardiac and neural tissue. Analysing and interpreting data related to sphingolipid metabolism and S1P signalling. Integrating functional, cellular, histological, and molecular data and performing statistical analyses. Documenting and compiling research results and contributing to scientific publications and presentations. Collaborating with other members of the research group and external collaborators. Qualifications Requirements for the position include: A PhD in biomedicine, medicine, physiology, or another field relevant to the position. Documented research experience in experimental cardiovascular research. Practical experience with experimental models of myocardial infarction in rodents, including LAD ligation. Experience with functional cardiac phenotyping, including cardiac MRI. Experience with histological and molecular biological analyses of cardiovascular tissue. Good ability to independently plan, conduct, analyse, and document experimental research. Good ability to communicate scientific results in spoken and written English. Good collaborative skills, as the project involves work in an interdisciplinary and international research environment. Meritorious for the position: Experience with tissue clearing and light-sheet microscopy. Experience with analysis and visualisation of sympathetic and vagal innervation and neural pathways. Experience with three-dimensional image analysis and quantitative analysis of microscopy data. Experience with research on sphingolipids, particularly S1P signalling, in relation to cardiovascular disease. Experience with analysis of mass spectrometry-generated lipid data. Experience combining neurobiological, immunological, and cardiovascular analyses. Further information This is a special fixed-term position (SÄVA) for 12 months at 80 percent of full-time. The desired start date is November 1, 2026, or as agreed. How to Apply The position is applied for via Lund University’s recruitment system. The application must include a cover letter explaining your interest in the position and describing how your experience corresponds to the work duties and qualification requirements. The application must also include a CV, publication list, PhD degree certificate, and contact details for referees. More information about the Faculty of Medicine
